WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed defenseman Ryan Segalla to an American Hockey League contract for the 2016-17 season. Furthermore, Segalla and six other players have been reassigned at the conclusion of Penguins training camp.

Segalla, 21, spent the past three seasons with the University of Connecticut. The Rockland, Mass. native scored three goals and had 18 assists for 21 points in his collegiate career, and he led the Huskies in penalty minutes twice (2013-14; 2014-15).

The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Segalla in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in Newark, N.J.

Forwards Miloš Bubela, Gage Quinney and Cody Wydo, as well as defenseman Brett Stern, have been released from their tryout agreements with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and will report to the Penguins’ ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers.

Segalla, defenseman Michael Webster and forward Christian Hilbrich, have also been loaned to Wheeling by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Following today’s moves, the Penguins’ roster has now been reduced to 24 players.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s next game is the 2016-17 season opener on Saturday, Oct. 15 against the Hartford Wolf Pack at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Game time for the Penguins’ season opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
