The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Penguins GOALS Foundation are joining with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and Team AVP to assist airport workers affected by the government shutdown.
Team AVP is sponsoring a donation drive to assist employees of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) who work at AVP.
The Penguins will be collecting non-perishable food items at their home games this Friday (7:05pm vs. Rochester), Saturday (3:05pm vs. Hershey) and Monday (1:05pm vs. Lehigh Valley), which will then be donated to the airport initiative.
Collection boxes will be set up outside of the EAST GATE of the arena prior to each game. Items will be delivered to Team AVP this coming week, and will assist approximately 100 employees and families at the facility.
Acceptable donations include:
Canned goods (soups, stew, chili, chicken, tuna, salmon, spam, vegetables, broths)
Fruit (canned or dried)
Meals in a Box (Hamburger Helper, Mac & Cheese, etc.)
Instant Mashed Potatoes
Lunch Box Items
Toiletry Items (Soap, Toothpaste, Shampoo, etc.)
Diapers (Newborn through 4T)
Beverages (Soda, Water, Iced Tea, etc.)
All items must be unopened. No other items (cash, gift cards, clothing, frozen perishable items, etc.) will be accepted.
