PENGUINS ASSIGN LAFFERTY TO WILKES-BARRE

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned forward Sam Lafferty to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Lafferty, 24, made his NHL debut on October 8 against Winnipeg after being called up the day prior. He played in 10 games, tallying six points (3G-3A) and was plus-4. Lafferty’s six points are tied for fifth in the NHL among rookies. During the Penguins’ first road trip, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound forward recorded two multi-point games against the Minnesota Wild (1G-2A) and Winnipeg Jets (2G).

The Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania native began his professional hockey career with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins after being selected in the fourth round (113th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. In the 2018-19 season, he recorded 49 points (13G-36A) in 70 games, making him the second-highest point scorer in his first full season with WBS.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s next game is Friday, Nov. 1, a showdown with its PA Turnpike rival, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The Penguins’ next home game is Saturday, Nov, 9, against the Syracuse Crunch. Puck drop between the Penguins and Crunch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
