The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins send our heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Andy Long, who passed away late last week.

Andy served as the first general manager of what is now the Mohegan Sun Arena, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the building beginning in 1999.

He worked closely with the Penguins staff during the team’s early years, and was instrumental in helping to stage some of the biggest events in team history, including the 2001 AHL All-Star Classic and two Calder Cup Finals series.

A well-respected veteran of the facility management industry, Long left his post in NEPA to take over operations of the newly constructed Iowa Events Center in his home state inn 2004. He had been living in the Des Moines area until the time of his passing.

Our thoughts are with his wife Karen, his children Eric and Samantha, in this time.
