FLEURY, GOLIGOSKI LEAD PENS TO WIN
BINGHAMTON, NY- Alex Goligoski recorded a goal and an assist, while Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves in his third rehab start, leading the Penguins to a 3-2 win against the Binghamton Senators on Monday night.
The win upped the Pens' record to 30-20-0-3, and moved Wilkes-Barre/Scranton into a tie for second place in the East Division with the Hershey Bears. Those two clubs will face off Wednesday night at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.
The Senators fell to 25-21-5-4 on the year, and sit in a three way tie for fourth place in the East Division with the Albany River Rats and Bridgeport Sound Tigers. All three of those clubs have 59 points.
The Penguins jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead on goals by Jon D'Aversa, David Gove and Goligoski, all coming before the game was halfway over. D'Aversa and Goligoski's goals both came on the power play, as the Penguins went 2-for-5 on the man advantage. The last time the Pens tallied a power play goal before Monday was six games ago, when Wilkes-Barre/Scranton dropped a 4-3 decision to the Norfolk Admirals.
Binghamton was kept scoreless until the 8:19 mark of the third period, when Alexander Nikulin beat Fleury for his ninth of the season.
Highly regarded prospect Nick Foligno pulled the Sens within one with his second goal of the AHL season at 15:22. But Fleury stood up to the pressure, stopping 12 of 14 shots in the final 20 mintues to pick up his second win in three tries with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Kurtis McLean picked up two assists in the game, while Tim Brent picked up one helper himself. Those players sit atop the Penguins' scoring list with 39 and 40 points respectively. |
