PENGUINS SILENCE THE SOUND TIGERS AND EXTEND WIN STREAK
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins ran their winning streak to six games on Friday night, defeating the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-1, at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The win upped the Pens record to 38-24-0-3, and moved them to within one point of the Albany River Rats in the battle for second place in the East Division. The teams will face off Saturday night in Albany.
It was a career night for Paul Bissonnette, who picked up the Gordie Howe hat trick with a goal, assist and a fight to lead the Penguins attack. Jonathan Filewich had three assists on the evening, while Tim Brent picked up two helpers for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton cause.
The game featured plenty of fireworks, including an on-ice melee midway through the third period, which even saw goaltenders John Curry and Joey MacDonald drop the mitts.
The Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the game was 10 minutes old, on scores by Nathan Smith and Tim Wallace. Bissonnettes picked up his second goal of the season 3:40 into the second period, and Jon D'Aversa picked up the Pens fourth of the night minutes into the third period to give the visitors a comfortable lead.
Colton Fretter notched his fifth goal in six games with the Sound Tigers for the only blemish on the Penguins' scoresheet.
Brent hit the 50 point mark with his two-point game.
