PENGUINS RUN WIN STREAK TO EIGHT AGAINST BRUINS
Dave Brown made 24 saves through regulation and overtime, then stopped three of four shootout attempts to lead the Penguins to a 2-1 win against the AHL-leading Providence Bruins on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Centers.
The win was the eighth in a row for the Pens - one shy of their season-high - and upped the team's record to 40-24-0-3 on the season.
Brown, making his first AHL start since March 1, moved his record to 7-6-1 for the year.
A classic goaltenders duel, the game remained scoreless until 13:34 of the third period, when Nathan Smith picked up his second goal in as many games to break the ice. Paul Bissonnette and Jonathan Filewich assisted on the tally.
Nate Thompson made sure the advantage was short-lived, striking 41 seconds later to even the score at 1-1.
The Penguins pressured Tukka Rask in overtime with four shots, but the rookie goalie stood firm - that is until the shootout portion of the night. Mark Letestu, Tim Brent and J.M. Daoust all scored for the Penguins, while Brown surrendered just one goal in four attempts to pick up the win.
The victory tied the Penguins for first place in the East Division with the Philadelphia Phantoms, who were involved with a Sunday afternoon contest with the Portland Pirates. |
