PENGUINS MOVE INTO FIRST WITH 4-2 WIN OVER BRIDGEPORT
WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Penguins don't want to get into the habit of spotting the opposition two goal leads. But for the second night in a row, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was able to overcome an early deficit and come out victorious.
Nathan Smith netted two goals, Connor James picked up three points, and the Penguins posted a 4-2, come from behind win, against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday night.
The win upped the Penguins' record to 44-26-0-3, and moved the team into first place in the East Division, one point ahead of the idle Philadelphia Phantoms. Bridgeport's record fell to 37-31-1-2.
For the second night in a row, John Curry saw his opposition score early - although Saturday night's opener didn't come quite as quickly as the 11 second stunner Friday against Hamilton. It took Ben Walter 1:40 to break the 0-0 tie Saturda, giving life to the crowd of 5,079.
A slashing call on Alain Nasreddine gave the home team a power play late in the first period, and Jamie Fraser made sure the opportunity wasn't wasted, as the defender picked up his seventh goal of the season to give Bridgeport a 2-0 lead at the end of two periods.
It was all Penguins from there on out.
Smith scored two goals in a span of 3:53 to tie the score. The tallies were the 19th and 20th of the season for the Penguins' captain, bettering his personal best for goals in a season by one from his 2006-07 total.
The Pens took their first lead of the night before the second period was out, as Alex Goligoski notched his ninth of the year behind Mike Morrison. The goal came with 1:28 left in the middle frame.
James finished off the night, picking up his ninth of the season, and his fifth point in the past three games.
Curry grabbed his 22nd win of the season, tied for the third-highest single season total in Penguins history with Jeff Deslauriers.
NOTES: Goligoski's game winner was his fourth of the season. |
