Albany enters this week’s action with a 2-2-0-1 record, good for five points and fourth place in the East Division.
The first 6,000 fans in attendance will receive a free 2007-2008 Penguins Team Calendar, sponsored by Coors Light. The 13-month calendar features photos of 17 different Penguins players during a recent photo shoot held at Gallucci Music in downtown Scranton.
The following night, the Binghamton Senators pay their first visit of the year to Wilkes-Barre, with game time also slated at 7:05pm. The Senators carry a 2-3-0-0 record for four points and fifth place in the East Division into this week.

- Jeff Taffe is first in the AHL with seven goals, first with five power play goals and tied for fifth with nine points (7+2).
- Tyler Kennedy is tied for first with two game-winning goals.
- Kris Letang is tied for ninth among defensemen and tied for 13th among rookies with five points (0+5)
- Ryan Stone is tied for fourth with 31 penalty minutes.
TRICKY TAFFE: Jeff Taffe became the second Penguins player to record a hat trick this season after posting three goals in the 6-1 win at Bridgeport. Taffe netted the first two goals of the game with power play tallies at 2:30 and 19:36 of the first period, and completed the trick at 16:08 of the second with an even strength goal.
Taffe leads the league with seven goals and five power play goals, and is the only Penguins player to record a point in each of the team’s first six games this season.
Chris Minard is the other Penguin to net a hat trick this season, doing so in the team’s 5-4 opening night win against the Hershey Bears on October 3.
WELCOME TO THE AHL: A pair of Penguins rookies made their professional hockey debuts on Saturday in Bridgeport. Right Wing Aaroon Boogaard recorded five penalty minutes with a first period fight with Kip Brennan, while defenseman Jon D’Aversa was scoreless with two penalty minutes in his first game.
PENGUINS POINTS OF INTEREST:
- The Penguins have recorded 10 power play goals this season, tied for the third highest total in the league (Philadelphia - 13, Rockford – 12)
- The Penguins are 0-3-0-0 against the Philadelphia Phantoms this season, but 3-0-0-0 against all other opponents.
- Jonathan Filewich recorded career goals 53 and 54 in Saturday’s win at Bridgeport, moving him into a tie with Martin Sonnenberg for seventh place on the team’s all-time goals list. His 96 career points are 16th, one behind Erik Christensen’s mark of 97 for 15th place.
- Filewich also moved into 25th place on the Penguins’ all-time games played list on Saturday, appearing in his 159th career game with the club.
SKILLS ON SCHEDULE: The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Skills Competition, presented by Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep, will take place on Sunday, December 9 at 5:00pm at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.
The competition pits two teams of Penguins players against each other in competitions including the hardest shot, puck control relay, rapid fire, fastest skater, pass and score, accuracy shooting and breakaway relay. The event is run by JRP Group, the same organization which stages the NHL and AHL All-Star Skills Competitions.
Members of area youth hockey teams will be competing alongside their Penguins counterparts, and proceeds from the event will benefit the Penguins United Way Charity Fund, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and local youth hockey organizations.
Penguins season ticket holders can reserve their seats for the event for just $11.00 by contacting their Penguins Account Representatives.
Tickets for the general public are priced at $13.00, and will be available at the Wachovia Arena Box Office, through www.ticketmaster.com, and at all local TicketMaster outlets beginning November 24 at 10:00am.
A special pre-sale for the competition will take place during the Penguins home contests on November 21 and 23, only through the inside box office window at the Wachovia Arena.
