MANNINO NAMED CCM/AHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced today that Peter Mannino has been selected as CCM/AHL Goaltender of the Month for March.   Mannino made 10 starts for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during March and allowed two goals or fewer in each, stopping 211 of 222 shots while compiling a 7-2-1 record with a 1.09 goals-against average, a .950 save percentage and two shutouts.   Mannino began the month with 19 saves in a… read more

PITTSBURGH ASSIGNS HARTZELL TO WBS

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that goaltender Eric Hartzell has been assigned by the Pittsburgh Penguins to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL).  In addition, forward Denver Manderson has been returned on loan to Wheeling.    Hartzell, 24, has won five straight starts for the Nailers to lift his ECHL record to 8-4-1 with a 2.91 GAA and a .905 save percentage.  The rookie netminder has gone 10-7-1 this year for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton… read more

KOSTOPOULOS APPEARS IN 400th GAME WITH WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins captain Tom Kostopoulos appeared in his 400th game with the club on Saturday night against the Norfolk Admirals. A member of the Penguins inaugural squad in 1999-2000, Kostopoulos is the team’s all-time leader in games played (400), as well as goals (121), assists (176) and points (297), and ranks fifth on the club’s all-time list with 630 penalty minutes. RUOPP ASSIGNED TO WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that defenseman Harrison Ruopp has been assigned from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) by the Pittsburgh Penguins.    In 16 games with the Penguins this year, Ruopp has posted 32 penalty minutes.  A 21-year old rookie from Zehner, Saskatchewan, Ruopp has also collected three assists and 42 PIM over 19 games for Wheeling.     Ruopp was originally a 2011 third-round draft pick (84th overall) of the… read more

PENGUINS RECALL ROWNEY FROM WHEELING

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that forward Carter Rowney has been recalled on loan from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL).    The 23-year old rookie returns to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton where he has skated in 16 contests this season, collecting one goal and two assists.  Rowney is currently tied for second on the Nailers with 44 points, having registered 13 goals and 31 assists in the 39 games.  He is also the team leader with a +23 plus/minus… read more
