PENGUINS SEND THREE TO WHEELING

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned left wings Joey Haddad and Casey Pierro-Zabotel, and defenseman Alex Grant from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), it was announced today. Haddad, 20, finished third in points over his last two junior seasons with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL). He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on September 18, 2008. WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, PA – Wyatt Smith and Chris Conner combined for six points, and John Curry won his 58th career game as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins took the regular season opener from the Syracuse Crunch by a 4-2 score. PENGUINS ASSIGN THREE TO WHEELING NAILERS

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have assigned defensemen Mitch Ganzak and Dan Henningson to Wheeling (ECHL), it was announced today. Additionally, the Penguins have signed goaltender Jordan Parise to an AHL contract and have also assigned him to Wheeling. PENGUINS MELT CHOCOLATE IN FIRST PRESEASON WIN

HERSHEY, PA – Keven Veilleux’s second goal of the game highlighted a three-goal second period, as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins battled their way to their first victory of the preseason, 4-2 over the Hershey Bears on Friday night at Giant Center. JOHN HYNES NAMED WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PENGUINS ASSISTANT COACH

WILKES-BARRE, PA – John Hynes has been named assistant coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by Pittsburgh Penguins Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero. WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will open their 11th season of play at home on Saturday, October 3, when they take on the Syracuse Crunch.
