PITTSBURGH ASSIGNS THREE TO WBS

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned defenseman Simon Despres and forwards Chuck Kobasew and Harry Zolnierczyk to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.   Despres, 22, has recorded 22 points (6+16) in 34 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.  Despres has appeared in 85 NHL games with the Penguins over the past three seasons, recording 16 points (3+13).   Zolnierczyk, 26,… read more

PENGUINS SIGN THREE TO ATOS

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Jean-Sebastien Dea, defenseman Clark Seymour and goaltender Matt Murray to amateur tryout agreements (ATO).    Dea, 20, recently completed his third season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.  The forward was tied for fourth in the QMJHL with 49 goals, while registering 26 assists and 53 penalty minutes in 65 games.  He also… read more

VOKOUN RECALLED BY PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled goaltender Tomas Vokoun from his conditioning assignment with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.   Vokoun appeared in two games for WBS over the weekend, going 1-1. HARTZELL RETURNS TO WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – It was announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned goaltender Eric Hartzell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL).     Hartzell has gone 10-8-1 this year for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with a 2.48 goals against average, a .901 save percentage and three shutouts.  In 14 appearances with Wheeling, the 24-year old rookie netminder has posted a record of 8-5-1 with a 3.13 GAA, a .900 save percentage and one shutout.  … read more

MARLIES SCORE THREE IN THIRD TO POST COMEBACK WIN

Kenny Ryan’s goal with 26.6 seconds left in regulation capped a Toronto comeback, as the Marlies rallied from two goals down to post a 3-2 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday afternoon. The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Chuck Kobasew from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero. Kobasew, 31, has played in 11 games with WBS, scoring 10 goals and 11 points, including a pair of goals in Friday night’s 3-2 shootout win against Syracuse. PENS CLINCH 12th CONSECUTIVE PLAYOFF BERTH WITH WIN OVER SENS

Goals from Carter Rowney and Scott Harrington, as well as another outstanding performance from Peter Mannino, gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 2-1 win over the Binghamton Senators on Saturday night. KOBASEW, VOKOUN LEAD PENS TO SHOOTOUT WIN IN SYRACUSE

VOKOUN BACK IN ACTION
