PENS TO FACE SENATORS IN FIRST ROUND OF PLAYOFFS

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins today announced the schedule for their best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Binghamton Senators in the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs. PENS FALL TO COMETS IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE, 2-0

Peter Andersson and Pascal Pelletier handled the scoring, while Joacim Eriksson stopped all 27 shots he faces, as the Utica Comets posted a 2-0 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in both teams’ regular season finales. SENS HOLD OFF PENS COMEBACK TO CLAIM EAST DIVISION TITLE

Jean-Gabriel Pageau picked up the hat trick as the Binghamton Senators jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 26:46 of play, then saw his team hold off the Penguins, 5-4, on Friday night. CONNER JOINS WBS FOR CONDITIONING

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned Chris Conner to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for conditioning, it was announced on Wednesday morning.   Conner, 30, recorded five points (4+1) in 19 games with the NHL Penguins before being put on injured reserve on January 3.  He also posted 11 points (6G-5A) in 15 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton earlier this year. PITTSBURGH ASSIGNS THREE TO WBS

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned defenseman Simon Despres and forwards Chuck Kobasew and Harry Zolnierczyk to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.   Despres, 22, has recorded 22 points (6+16) in 34 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.  Despres has appeared in 85 NHL games with the Penguins over the past three seasons, recording 16 points (3+13).   Zolnierczyk, 26,… read more

PENGUINS SIGN THREE TO ATOS

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Jean-Sebastien Dea, defenseman Clark Seymour and goaltender Matt Murray to amateur tryout agreements (ATO).    Dea, 20, recently completed his third season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.  The forward was tied for fourth in the QMJHL with 49 goals, while registering 26 assists and 53 penalty minutes in 65 games.  He also… read more

VOKOUN RECALLED BY PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled goaltender Tomas Vokoun from his conditioning assignment with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.   Vokoun appeared in two games for WBS over the weekend, going 1-1. HARTZELL RETURNS TO WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – It was announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned goaltender Eric Hartzell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL).     Hartzell has gone 10-8-1 this year for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with a 2.48 goals against average, a .901 save percentage and three shutouts.  In 14 appearances with Wheeling, the 24-year old rookie netminder has posted a record of 8-5-1 with a 3.13 GAA, a .900 save percentage and one shutout.  … read more
