RYAN CRAIG NAMED PENGUINS’ TEAM CAPTAIN

Ryan Craig has been named the 16th captain in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins history, it was announced on Thursday by head coach John Hynes.  Voting for team captain was done completely by the players, Hynes said, and the vote was unanimous.“We’re happy with the players we have, we have great experience, and all are true professionals,” Hynes said.  “Ryan fits the captain’s mold perfectly and we know all the captains will do a great job on and off the ice.”In addition to the eight games… read more

VIM, VIGOR, VITALE – By Scott Stuccio Cam Janssen is a crash-the-net, mix-it-up, grinding player who was known as an enforcer on the ice. He spent 207 games in the NHL and amassed 546 penalty minutes to date. At age 26, he still has a long way to go in his pro career. CURRY, THIESSEN NAMED REEBOK/AHL GOALTENDERS OF THE MONTH

The American Hockey League announced Monday that John Curry and Brad Thiessen of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have been named co-winners of the Reebok/AHL Goaltender of the Month award for October. Curry and Thiessen split the goaltending chores and combined to go 8-0-0 with a 1.84 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage as the Penguins remained the league’s only unbeaten team. PETERSEN REASSIGNED TO WHEELING; FATA RELEASED

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Pittsburgh Penguins have reassigned right wing Nick Petersen from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), it was announced on Monday. Petersen appeared in three games with the Penguins, going scoreless. The 21-year-old native of Wakefield, Quebec spent last season with the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL) where he posted 79 points (39G, 40A) in 59 games, finishing third on the team in scoring. PENGUINS DEFEAT BEARS, CLAIM FIFTH STRAIGHT VICTORY

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Joe Vitale scored two goals, one shorthanded, and Brad Thiessen turned aside 30 shots to help the Penguins to their fifth consecutive win to start the season, 3-2 over the Hershey Bears. Penguins Spoil Charlotte Debut

Dustin Jeffrey netted two goals and Brad Thiessen made 30 saves to lead the Penguins to a 4-2 win over the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night. The game was the first regular season home contest for the Checkers, the new AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes. DUSTIN JEFFREY ASSIGNED TO WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON

The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned forward Dustin Jeffrey to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero. PENGUINS RELEASE 2010 TRAINING CAMP ROSTER
