WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins made it five wins in a row, blanking the Hershey Bears, 4-0, on Friday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Joey Mormina tallied a pair of goals and goaltender Brad Thiessen stopped 19 shots to help Wilkes-Barre Scranton gather its first home win of the year. The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Alexandre Picard from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero. Picard, 26, has appeared in nine games for WBS, collecting three assists and posting a team-best plus-7 rating – which places him 10th (tied) in the AHL. Brad Thiessen helped the Penguins put the memories of a seven-goal outing from the Springfield Falcons behind them, as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton posted a 3-0 win at the MassMutual Center on Friday night. PENGUINS AND MORMINA RAISE FUNDS FOR ACS

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ fans and defenseman Joey Mormina helped raise $425.81 for the American Cancer Society during home games Friday and Saturday at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Mormina recruited a few of his Penguins teammates to help raise awareness about prostate cancer prevention and treatment.
