WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Josh Archibald to an amateur tryout agreement (ATO).
Archibald just completed a record-setting junior season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he registered 29 goals, 14 assists and 62 penalty minutes in 37 games, setting a new school and career mark for goals scored in a season. A 21-year old from Brainerd, Minnesota, Archibald was recently named a Hobey Baker Finalist after leading the Mavericks in points (43) and ranking second in the NCAA in goals (29). He was also voted the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s Player and Forward of the Year.
Archibald was a sixth-round pick (174th overall) of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Over three seasons with the University of Nebraska-Omaha, he has totaled 94 points (58g-36a) and 129 penalty minutes in 112 contests.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins battle the Utica Comets tonight at 7:05pm. The first 5,000 fans at the game will receive a Penguins umbrella, courtesy of PNC Bank and Fox 56.
