Crunch Shut Out Penguins To Take 2-1 Series Lead
W-B/Scranton looks to even series with Game 4 at home on Friday
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins made 22 saves to help Syracuse to a 2-0 shutout of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza and a
2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Final.
After the first period came to an end without a goal from either side, Vlad Namestnikov gave Syracuse the 1-0 edge at 7:29 of the second period. Namestnikov pounced on a turnover at the Crunch blueline and rushed up ice into the Penguins zone. Though his initial shot went wide, Namestnikov received a second chance when Ondrej Palat set him up in the slot and wristed the puck over the glove of Brad Thiessen.
The Crunch held the Penguins to just 12 shots through the final two periods of play. J.T. Brown would eventually seal the win on an empty-net goal with 5.8 seconds remaining in regulation.
Thiessen turned aside 20-of-21 shots to further lower his goals against average despite the loss. The shutout was the second of the playoffs for Desjardins.
