D’AVERSA, SILL SUMMONED FROM WHEELING NAILERS
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Pittsburgh Penguins have reassigned defenseman Jon D’Aversa from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced today. Additionally, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have recalled forward Zach Sill from the Wheeling Nailers.
D’Aversa, 23, returned from a short absence due to injury and appeared in three games with the Nailers, posting one goal. Prior to his injury, the 6’2”, 190-lb blueliner posted one assist and 23 penalty minutes in 14 appearances with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The native of Richmond Hill, Ontario made his professional debut with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on October 20, 2007. He has appeared in 109 career games with the Penguins, totaling 30 points (5+25). He set career professional highs in 2008-09 with 22 assists and 23 points, finishing second among defensemen in scoring.
D’Aversa also appeared in 28 games with the Nailers from 2007-2009, recording 28 points (2+26). He represented the Nailers at the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game in Stockton, CA, tallying two goals for the American Conference squad.
D’Aversa was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on May 25, 2007.
Sill, 21, posted three points (one shorthanded goal and two assists) along with 15 penalty minutes in six games with the Nailers. In 15 appearances with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Sill also totaled three points (1+2). His registered his first AHL goal on November 11, 2009 against the Portland Pirates.
The 6-0, 200-lb. native of Truro, Nova Scotia appeared in 58 games for the Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL) last season, posting 24 points (9+15) and 78 penalty minutes. Sill recorded 50 points (27+23) and 173 penalty minutes in 124 career games with the Wildcats. He joined the Penguins for the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Sill was signed by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins as a free agent on July 14, 2009.
