NORFOLK, Va. – Eric Tangradi scored twice to lead to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 4-2 victory over the Norfolk Admirals on Wednesday at the Norfolk Scope. The win lifted the Penguins into first place in the East Division, extended their winning streak to seven games and kept them without a loss on the road at 7-0-0-0. After the two teams traded power play goals early in the first, the Penguins went up 2-1 at 13:27 when Ben Street picked up a turnover by Norfolk goalie Dustin Tokarski and wrapped the puck into the open net. The Penguins then went up by two 3:12 before the first intermission as a scramble in front of the Admirals’ crease resulted in Simon Despres notching his second marker of the season. That would be the final goal until when Pierre-Cedric Labrie pulled Norfolk within one with 3:19 left in regulation, digging a puck out of a scrum in front of Brad Thiessen and shoving it across the goal line. Tangradi took away any ensuing drama on an empty-net goal with 22 seconds remaining in the contest. Thiessen, who has been in net for the entirety of the Penguins’ seven-game win streak, made 25 saves on the night. He has allowed just ten goals in seven road matches this season. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton broke through with the first goal for eighth consecutive game thanks to the power play unit. Despres’ point shot was saved by Tokarski, but Tangradi was able to pound home the rebound at 4:46 of the firsSt. The Admirals responded four minutes later on the man-advantage as the Penguins’ failure to clear their zone turned into a goal by Cory Conacher to tie the contest, 1-1. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins next take the ice on Friday, November 11 as they skate against the Hershey Bears at 7:00 PM. The Penguins return to the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza on Saturday, November 12, battling the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05 PM. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins playing cards, courtesy of the Mohegan Sun Casino at Pocono Downs.
