Munroe Wins 100th as Penguins Beat Senators
Street scores twice to key W-B/Scranton’s comeback
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goalie Scott Munroe earned his 100th American Hockey League victory as the Penguins rallied past the Binghamton Senators for a 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
Down 2-0 after one period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton turned the tables in the middle frame thanks to a pair of tallies by Ben Street. The second-year pro drove towards the net during a Penguins’ man-advantage and banked in the rebound chance from Ryan Craig’s stuff shot.
At the 8:59 mark of the same period, Street streaked in from the left circle, took a drop pass from Geoff Walker and whipped a wrist shot over the shoulder of goalie Robin Lehner. The goal was Street’s team-leading 25th of the season.
Walker then completed the comeback with 7:32 remaining in the contest after Brian Strait kept the puck inside Binghamton end and threw a shot back toward the crease. Walker dug the puck out the resulting traffic in front and lifted a shot to the top of the net for his 16th marker of the year.
The Senators owned the first period and shot out to a 2-0 cushion. A centering pass from Mike Hoffman jumped off a stick in front of the Penguins’ net and bounced in off the body of Mark Parrish at 8:50.
With six minutes left until the intermission and Binghamton on the power play, Dan Henningson slapped a shot from the point that caromed to the right post for Wacey Hamilton to knock past Munroe.
Munroe made 24 saves in the victory to go to 17-6-3 on the season. Lehner stopped 33 for Binghamton in the loss.
