HADDAD, GRANT JOIN WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Pittsburgh Penguins have reassigned defenseman Alex Grant and forward Joey Haddad from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL), it was announced on Sunday.
Haddad, 20, is currently tied for second on the Nailers with 11 points (5+6), and his five goals are second on the squad. The native of Sydney, NS finished third in points over his last two junior seasons with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL). He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on September 18, 2008.
Grant, 20, has the second-best point total among Nailers defensemen with six (4+2), and his two power play goals are tied for the team lead. He currently has the Nailers’ best plus-minus rating of plus-4.
Grant spent the majority of his junior career with the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL) and a portion of last season with the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL). He totaled 124 points (40+84) in 222 games with Saint John, and 19 points (4+15) in 23 games with Shawinigan. He was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (118th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins visit the Hartford Wolk Pack this Thursday, November 19th at 7:00 pm to conclude their three-game road trip. The team returns home to face the Adirondack Phantoms on Saturday, November 21st at 7:05 pm.
