October 13, 2012 will be a night to remember for hockey fans in Northeast PA.
Less than 90 minutes north of Wilkes-Barre, the Penguins will open their 14th AHL seasonby taking on the Senators in Binghamton. Familiar faces such as Zach Sill, Brad Thiessen, Paul Thompson and Joey Mormina will be joined on the ice by big name free agent signees (Trevor Smith, Warren Peters, Philippe Dupuis) as well as an crop of exciting rookies (Beau Bennett, Joe Morrow, Brian Dumoulin).

Staying in PA, Mohegan Sun Arena will play host to the area's first ever NCAA Division I game, as the Penn State Nittany Lions host the American International Yellow Jackets at 7:00pm. Penn State is competing at the Division I level for the first time this season, and opened it's schedule with a 3-2 OT loss to AIC on Friday night in State College. The Nittany Lions are captained by Tommy Olczyk, son of former Pittsburgh Penguins player and head coach Eddie Olczyk, and feature eight Pennsylvania natives on their roster.
Tickets for the PSU-AIC game are just $12 and available at the Mohegan Sun Arena box office up until game time.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins open their 2012-13 home schedule on Saturday, October 20, when they play host to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05pm.
