JOHN CURRY RE-SIGNS WITH PITTSBURGH

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed goaltender John Curry to a two-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero. Curry, 25, played three games with Pittsburgh during the 2008-09 season, including his NHL debut on Nov. 26, relieving Dany Sabourin and helping the Penguins secure a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders. He posted a 2-1-0 record along with a .913 save percentage and 2.14 goals-against average during his stint with the Penguins. Curry registered a 33-15-1 record in 50 games last season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL), posting a .916 save percentage and a 2.38 goals-against average. The native of Shorewood, Minnesota set new team records for wins in a season (33) and career wins (57) during the year. He also made seven post-season appearances with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, posting a 4-3 record, a .885 save percentage and a 3.36 goals-against average. The 5-11, 185-pound goaltender posted a 24-12-3 record in 40 contests during the 2007-08 season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, ranking fifth in the AHL with a 2.23 goals-against average and registering a .915 save percentage. The 24-year old posted a 2.83 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage in 23 playoff games, helping the Penguins reach the Calder Cup Finals. Curry was named to the 2008 AHL All-Rookie Team.
