MEGNA RECALLED BY PITTSBURGH

Jayson MegnaThe Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Jayson Megna from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Megna, 23, will be looking to make his NHL debut tomorrow night against the New York Islanders. The second-year pro was off to a great start with WBS, placing second on the team in goals (3) and plus-minus (+8) through the first six games. In total, Megna has five points (3G-2A) on the year.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Megna has excelled on the penalty kill, as he leads the AHL with two shorthanded goals and three shorthanded points. Megna, who has been a plus player in all six of his games, is also tied for the AHL lead with two game-winning goals.

A native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Megna appeared in 56 regular-season games as a rookie last season with WBS, finishing with five goals, seven assists and 12 points. He added five points (2G-3A) in 12 postseason contests as he helped WBS advance all the way to the Eastern Conference finals.

Signed by the Penguins as an undrafted free agent on August 1, 2012, Megna played one season of college hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2011-12, placing third on the team with 31 points (13G-18A) while being voted to the WCHA All-Rookie Team.

Megna’s father, Jay, played in the National Football League (NFL) with the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints. His younger brother, Jaycob, was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 2012.
