Penguins Add D-Men Sneep and Wild
Wheeling’s assist and plus-minus leaders join W-B/S
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – It was announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned defenseman Carl Sneep from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In addition, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed defenseman Cody Wild to an American Hockey League contract.
Sneep, 25, has registered three goals, 12 assists and 22 penalty minutes in 29 games with the Nailers this year and currently leads the team with a +12 plus-minus rating.
A third-year pro out of Nisswa, Minnesota, Sneep spent the last two seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, totaling 27 points (4g-23a) and 66 PIM over 101 contests. Sneep was a second round draft pick (32nd overall) of Pittsburgh in 2006 and made his NHL debut with the Penguins on Dec. 17, 2012, notching an assist against the Buffalo Sabres.
Sneep played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Boston College from 2006-10, winning a pair of NCAA national titles in 2008 and ’10.
Wild is Wheeling’s second-leading scorer with 26 points (6g-20a) in 35 games and also ranks first on the team with 20 assists. The 25-year old is tied for second among all ECHL defenseman in points (26) and is third in assists (20). The fifth-year pro has also skated in two games this season for the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL).
A former fifth-round selection of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Wild has appeared in 187 AHL contests with Springfield, Providence, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Hamilton. Last season, Wild played in 51 games for the Penguins, compiling six points (1g-5a) and 34 PIM.
Originally from North Providence, Rhode Island, Wild was a three-year letterman at Providence College.
