PENGUINS ASSIGN THREE TO WHEELING NAILERS
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have assigned defensemen Mitch Ganzak and Dan Henningson to Wheeling (ECHL), it was announced today. Additionally, the Penguins have signed goaltender Jordan Parise to an AHL contract and have also assigned him to Wheeling.
Ganzak, 25, was a key part of the Nailers’ success last season, tallying 40 points (7+33) in 64 games. He finished sixth on the team in points and tied for second with a plus-13 rating. He was signed by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as a free agent on July 28.
Henningson, 25, made his AHL debut with the Lake Erie Monsters last season, appearing in 10 regular-season contests and posting one assist. He finished his collegiate career at Quinnipiac University (ECAC) ranking fourth among the Bobcats’ defensemen in assists (55) and sixth in points (67), and was one of five Quinnipiac players to appear in 150 games. The native of Edmonton, Alberta was signed by the Penguins as a free agent on September 8.
Parise, 27, spent last season playing for Salzburg EC in Austria, appearing in 47 games. He spent the previous two seasons with the Lowell Devils, compiling a 21-24-3 record, 3.00 GAA, and .905 save percentage in 50 regular-season games.
Parise helped lead the University of North Dakota to back-to-back trips to the Frozen Four in 2005 and 2006, and finished his college career with a record of 54-18-7, a 2.09 GAA, .923 save percentage, and 10 shutouts.
The Penguins have also released forward Nick Petersen from training camp. Petersen was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (121st overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He will return to the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL.
With the addition of the four players assigned by Pittsburgh, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins’ training camp roster now stands at 28 players (8 defensemen, 17 forwards, and three goaltenders).
