Penguins Double Up the Senators
Kolarik nets goal and assist;  Zatkoff gets 21st win

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Chad Kolarik recorded a goal and an assist and Riley Holzapfel added two helpers as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton earned a 4-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

The Penguins got the start they wanted, leaping ahead in the first frame thanks to three goals scored over span of 4:52.  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton kicked things off at 11:35 as Holzapfel slid a pass from the far corner to the slot that Kolarik snapped toward the crease and it was Trevor Smith depositing the rebound for this 19th of the season.

Kolarik put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton up, 2-0, with his team-leading 24th marker of the year as he found space in between the hashmarks for the wrist shot to the top left corner of the net.

With 3:33 remaining until the first intermission, the Penguins went up by three during an odd-man rush that saw Chris Collins whip a pass to Paul Thompson, who unleashed a shot that beat Senators goalie Nathan Lawson to the glove side.

Binghamton got on the board at 12:51 of the second period on a clean faceoff win from Jean- Gabriel Pagaeu, a point shot from Daniel New and backhand shot by Corey Cowick after Jeff Zatkoff made the initial pad save.

The Senators would cut the Penguins lead down to one when Hugh Jessiman let loose a snap shot from the center blueline that weaved its way past Zatkoff and made the score 3-2 just 5:30 into the third period.

Skating on the power play late in regulation, Brian Gibbons gave his team a much needed insurance goal, deflecting Alex Grant’s point shot through the pads of Lawson for 4-2 Penguins lead with 5:18 left in the contest.

Zatkoff raised his record to 21-19-0 on the season as he turned aside 28-of-30 shots.  Lawson took the loss for Binghamton with 30 saves on the night.
