PENGUINS READING ACROSS NEPA

Robo's WinnersPenguins players Denver Manderson, Mike Carman, Reid McNeill and Barry Goers - along with Tux The Penguins Mascot and Scotty Saver from Cross Valley Federal Credit Union visited L.R. Appleman Elementary School in the Benton school district on Tuesday to congratulate the first half winners of the ROBO'S READERS program. Shannon Yedloski's 6th grade and Shannon Uram's 2nd grade classrooms read the most books in their grade groups, and earned pizza parties with Pens players as a result.

TRobo's Readers Denver Mandersonhe ROBO'S READERS program was established in 2007 and named in honor of former Penguins defenseman Darcy Robinson, who passed away while playing professionally in Italy.  ‘Robo’ knew the joy that books can bring more than most – he battled dyslexia from a young age, and thoroughly appreciated the wonders of the written word.

As part of the program, partcipating students are encouraged to read as many books as possible, and are rewarded with a free ticket to an annual ROBO'S READERS game.  The classrooms which read the most books during the campaign are also awarded a pizza party, attended by Penguins players and team mascot Tux.  Scottie Saver, mascot from Cross Valley Federal Credit Union, has joined the visits to double the fun!

If your school is interested in enrolling, please email Chris at csipsky@wbspenguins.com.
