The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned left wings Joey Haddad and Casey Pierro-Zabotel, and defenseman Alex Grant from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), it was announced today.
Haddad, 20, finished third in points over his last two junior seasons with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL). He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on September 18, 2008.
Pierro-Zabotel, 20, led the entire WHL in scoring last season as a member of the Vancouver Giants. He tallied an impressive 115 points (36+79) in 72 games, while adding 17 points in 17 playoff contests. The 6’2”, 210-lb native of Kamloops, BC was drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round (80th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Grant, 20, spent the majority of his junior career with the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL) and a portion of last season with the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL). He totaled 124 points (40+84) in 222 games with Saint John, and 19 points (4+15) in 23 games with Shawinigan. He was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (118th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
