Penguins Sign Barton and Crowder to PTOs
Wheeling forwards join WBS as team faces Adirondack tonight
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forwards Chris Barton and Paul Crowder to professional tryout agreements (PTO).
Crowder, 27, has registered 31 points (15G-16A) and 20 penalty minutes in 34 games for the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. The Victoria, BC-native currently leads the team in goals (15) and points (31). The Nailers acquired Crowder from the Utah Grizzlies on March 1, 2011.
A fourth-year pro, Crowder played three seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. He has appeared in 95 American Hockey League contests with Hartford and Manchester, totaling 12 goals, 17 assists and 32 PIM.
Barton, 25, was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team last season as he ranked first on the team with 29 goals and 60 points over 69 games. He also added 31 assists – the second-highest total on the squad. This season, Barton has compiled nine goals and six assists in 15 games with Wheeling.
Originally from Calgary, AB, Barton appeared in three games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during the 2011-12 season. He played in 141 career games over a four-year career at Merrimack College, where he scored 48 goals and 71 assists for 119 points.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins close out their three-game home stand in front of a sold out crowd tonight at 7:05PM against the Adirondack Phantoms. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Tom Grace Talking Bottle Opener, courtesy of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
