PENGUINS SIGN BEN STREET
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have agreed to terms with forward Ben Street on a one-year American Hockey League contract, it was announced on Tuesday.
Street, 24, split the 2010-11 season between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Wheeling (ECHL). In 36 regular-season games with the Penguins, Street recorded 23 points (12+11) and a plus-9 rating, and added one assist in eight Calder Cup Playoff contests.
Despite appearing in just 38 games with the Nailers, Street led the team with a plus-21 rating and finished second in scoring (51 points), tied for the lead in goals (24) and tied for second in assists (27). His efforts earned him the ECHL’s Rookie of the Year award.
The 5-11, 185-lb. native of Coquitlam, BC tallied at least ten goals in each of his four full seasons at the University of Wisconsin (WCHA), where he finished his collegiate career with 93 points (48+45) in 171 games.
