Penguins News

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Niko Dimitrakos to a professional tryout agreement. The Penguins also announced that forward Chris Barton has been reassigned to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). Dimitrakos, 32, skated overseas for the past four seasons, splitting last year with Modo Hockey of the Swedish Elite League and the Mannheim Eagles of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He last played in North America in 2007-08 when he posted 40 points (20g-20a) for the Binghamton Senators, ranking fifth on the team in points and third in goals. A former fifth round draft pick of San Jose in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Dimitrakos has appeared in 158 games with the Sharks and Philadelphia Flyers. The Boston, MA native was a four-year letterman at the University of Maine. Barton appeared in three games during the Penguins’ preseason schedule, scoring one goal.
