PENGUINS TRAVEL TO ST. JOHN’S FOR A TWO-GAME SET

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins travel to St. John's to face-off against the IceCaps in a two-game set on December 6th and 7th.

The Penguins (13-5-1-2, 29 points, first in East Division) are looking to get back on track after falling to their division rival, the Hershey Bears, in a tough 3-2 overtime loss on Saturday, November 30th.

St. John's (11-9-1-2, 25 points, third in Atlantic Division) have won three of their last four contests.  They defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-3, on November 24th then traveled to Hershey on November 27th where they defeated the Bears, 4-2.  The IceCaps fell short to the Syracuse Crunch on November 29th, losing 4-2, but bounced right back the next day when they traveled to Binghamton and won in a shootout, 4-3, on November 30th.

The Penguins and IceCaps have met already this year for a two-game set in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.  In the first game the Penguins took a 1-0 lead in the middle of the first period from a Zolnierczyk goal but was not enough as the IceCaps responded with two unanwsered goals to take the lead and win 2-1.  In the second game the following night, the Penguins were down 1-0 going into the third period when they exploded for an unbelievable five goal period. All five goals came from the sticks of different palyers giving the Penguins a 5-2 victory and splitting the two game set with the IceCaps.

  • Brian Gibbons is tied for sixth in points with 24, tied for fourth with 17 assists, tied for sixth in plus/minus with plus-12 and tied for second with 2 shorthanded goals
  • Brendan Mikkelson is tied for eighth among defensemen with 14 points, tied for 27th overall with ten assists, tied for 10th overall with two game-winning goals,  tied for first with two overtime goals and tied for second with nine power play assists.
  • Jeff Deslauriers is second in the league with 10 wins
  • Harry Zolnierczyk is tied for 15th overall with nine goals
  • Tom Kostopoulos is tied for 22nd overall with eight goals, and is tied for seventh overall with five power play goals
  • Tom Kuhnhackl is tied for 10th overall with two game-winning goals

ICECAPS NOTES

  • Eric O'Dell is tied for ninth in points with 22, tied for 10th with 10 goals, tied for 27th with 12 assists, tied for seventh overall with five  power play goals and tied for fourth with eight power play assists.
  • Kael Mouillierat is tied for 16th with 13 assists
  • Jerome Samson is tied for 22nd with eight goals and tied for 13th with four power play goals
  • Brenden Kichton is tied for fifth among defensemen with 16 points, tied for 27th with 12 assists and tied for fourth with eight power play assists.
  • Eddie Pasquale is tied for third with nine wins and second in the league with 499 saves.
