WBS Picks up First Home Win of 2013
Team takes the ice for three home games this week

Friday, January 4: Penguins 1, SENATORS 3…
The Penguins held a 44-15 shot advantage over the Senators in the contest, but it was Binghamton coming away with a 3-1 victory at Mohegan Sun Arena. 
 
Beau Bennett put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton up 1-0 at 8:21 of the first with his sixth goal of the season, but Derek Grant evened the score with 3:30 left until the intermission.  Mike Hoffman put the Senators ahead for good with a 5-on-3 power play goal midway through the second period.
 
Binghamton received an insurance tally from Hugh Jessiman early in the third as goalie Robin Lehner finished the game with 43 saves. 
 
Saturday, January 5: PENGUINS 3, Sharks 0…
Brad Thiessen made 30 saves for his first shutout of the season as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton blanked Worcester, 3-0, at Mohegan Sun Arena. 
 
It took just 40 seconds for Benn Ferriero to strike against his former team and break the scoreless tie.  The Penguins furthered their lead in the second period on goals less than four minutes apart by Riley Holzapfel and Warren Peters.
 
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went 5-for-5 on the penalty kill against the Sharks. 
 
Sunday, January 6: Penguins 0, WHALE 2…
The Connecticut Whale received 35 saves from rookie goaltender Jason Missiaen as they shut out the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 2-0, at XL Center.
 
Kyle Jean was responsible for all of the Whales’ offense as he notched his team’s first goal at 12:24 of the first on the power play.  Connecticut doubled its lead midway through the second period on Jean’s second tally of the game.

Wednesday, January 9, 7:05PM: PENGUINS vs. Senators - 102.3 the Mountain
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Binghamton face off for the sixth time in a season series that has been thus far dominated by the Senators.  The Penguins have gone 1-4-0-0 in their five games against the Senators, while managing just seven goals.  Senators goalie Robin Lehner has posted a 3-0-1 record versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with a 1.22 GAA and .967 goals against average.  Binghamton (21-8-1-2) had a five-game winning streak snapped on Sunday at Albany and currently sits in second place in the East Division.
 
Friday, January 11, 7:05PM: PENGUINS vs. Bears - 102.3 the Mountain
The Bears (16-16-1-1) are in third place in the East Division, just one point ahead of the Penguins.   Hershey has dropped its last three games, but has held the firm edge in the head-to-head match-up this season versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.  The Bears have won six of seven against the Penguins, including all three games at Mohegan Sun Arena.  Jeff Taffe is tied for third in the AHL with 26 assists.   
 
Saturday, January 12, 7:05 PM: PENGUINS vs. Phantoms - 102.3 the Mountain
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Adirondack open their four-game season series on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena.  The Penguins and Phantoms split their two contests in 2011-12 with each team winning on the road.  Adirondack (14-17-1-1) had gone five games without a win unitl last Saturday with a 2-1 overtime victory over Connecticut.  The Phantoms are in fifth place in the Northeast Division.

- Brad Thiessen’s victory on Saturday over Worcester was his first in regulation this season.  His previous victories have come in overtime (1) and shootout (2).
