PENGUINS WEEKLY RELEASE 19
League-Leading 20th Road Win Highlights Week

Team now tied for first place with Norfolk

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15:  PENGUINS 0, Admirals 4…
Four different Admirals found the back of the net and goalie Dustin Tokarski made 24 saves to lead Norfolk to a 4-0 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

Trevor Smith’s shorthanded goal 59 seconds into the second period provided the only scoring the Admirals would need in this contest.   Both teams were awarded penalty shots during the game, but Carter Ashton could not convert for Norfolk in the second period, nor was Robert Bortuzzo able to beat Tokarski with 3:43 left in regulation.

Scott Munroe suffered the loss, stopping 29 of 33 shots by the Admirals.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17: Penguins 6, SENATORS 1…
Defenseman Alex Grant and center Matt Rust each recorded two-goal games as the Penguins defeated the Senators, 6-1, at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Both of Grant’s markers came during man-advantage for the Penguins, who went 2-for-3 overall in the contest.  Nick Petersen added a goal and two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, while Eric Tangradi chipped in two helpers.

Turning aside 24 of 25 shots, Scott Munroe gathered his 10th win of the season.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18: Penguins 0, DEVILS 3…
Jeff Frazee made 32 saves for his first shutout of the season and Eric Gelinas lit the lamp twice to give the Albany Devils a 3-0 triumph over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at the Times Union Center.

Gelinas broke the scoreless tie at 14:13 of the second period with his ninth of the season and later sealed the win on an empty-net goal with 36 seconds left in the contest.

Tim Sestito put Albany up, 2-0, scoring on a penalty shot with 1:13 remaining until the second intermission.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20: Penguins 5, PIRATES 3…
Brian Strait’s goal with 7:43 remaining in the regulation proved to the game-winner for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a back-and-forth affair with the Portland Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The Penguins got consecutive power play goals in the second period from Geoff Walker and Bryan Lerg with Colin McDonald assisting on both markers.

Alexandre Picard notched a shorthanded empty-net goal to clinch the win for the road team. Scott Munroe won his second straight with a 25-save performance.

The Penguins’ annual SALUTE THE TROOPS is this Saturday, February 25 and is SOLD OUT.  The team is asking those in attendance for their support in providing much-needed amenities for our troops overseas.  The Penguins and the Tobyhanna Army Depot will be holding a care package collection at the East Gate of the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza prior to the sold-out game against the Syracuse Crunch.

Fans are encouraged to put together care packages or donate items which will be sent to currently-deployed military members through Operation Touch of Home (www.operationtouchofhome.org), a Monroe County based non-profit organization. The Penguins will also be wearing special military-themed jerseys during the contest.  Fans will be able to bid on these sweaters during the game at the Penguins Jersey Auction stand behind section 108 on the concourse.  Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Penguins Charity Fund.
