Team hits the road for two games this week

FRIDAY, MARCH 23: PENGUINS 0, Phantoms 1…
Jason Akeson’s goal at 8:59 of the first period stood up as the game’s only marker in a 1-0 win for Adirondack on Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.
 
Phantoms netminder Michael Leighton stopped all 24 shots he faced from the Penguins.  Scott Munroe turned aside 20 of 21 for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
 
SATURDAY, MARCH 24: PENGUINS 0, IceCaps 2…
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton failed to score a goal for the second straight game as they were blanked by St. John’s, 2-0 at Mohegan Sun Arena. 
 
Aaron Gagnon finished a breakaway chance with 21 seconds left in the first period to provide the game-winner for the IceCaps.  Jason Gregoire added an insurance goal seven minutes into the second. 
 
Eddie Pasqaule was a perfect 27-for-27 on the night, while Scott Munroe made 19 saves in 21 chances against. 
 
SUNDAY, MARCH 25: PENGUINS 5, Falcons 3…
Alex Grant’s goal at 7:39 of the third period capped a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton comeback for a 5-3 win over Springfield on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Zach Sill posted two helpers, assisting on Grant’s tally and Brian Strait’s empty-net goal with 27 seconds left in regulation.  Jason Williams and Bryan Lerg each assisted on the other’s goal to record a pair of points in the contest.
 
Patrick Killeen made 23 saves including 17 in the third period to pick up the second win of his AHL career.  The Penguins outscored the Falcons 3-0 in the final period despite being outshot 17-6.

Sunday’s victory was the sixth time this season Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has come back to win when trailing after the second period…Both of Patrick Killeen’s victories have come against Springfield… The last time Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was shutout in consecutive games was Feb. 15 & 16, 2008 against Philadelphia and Bridgeport…Ryan Craig appeared in his 375th AHL contest on Saturday… The Penguins finished with a 10-3-1-2 regular season record against Atlantic Division teams…Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s magic number is five.

UPCOMING GAMES
 
FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 7:00 PM:  Penguins vs. WHALE…
Connecticut is currently the Northeast Division leader with a record of 33-23-6-5.  The Whale are 0-2-1-0 in their last three games and hold just a two-point edge on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
 
Teammates Kris Newbury and Jonathan Audy-Marchessault are tied for 10th in AHL scoring with 23 goals and 35 assists for a total of 58 points.  Audy-Marchessault is also tied for third in points among first-year players.  Connecticut is just 8-7-1-4 when leading after the first period.
 
In their first meeting of the season back on Oct. 9, the Whale notched a 1-0 shootout win on the back of a 41-save performance by goaltender Chad Johnson.  The Penguins evened the season series with a 3-2 overtime win on Jan. 27.  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has a 7-12-1-0-2 (W-L-T-OTL-SOL) record all-time against Connecticut.
 
SATURDAY, MARCH 31, 7:00 PM:  Penguins vs. DEVILS…
Albany (28-28-6-5) is in fifth place in a crowded Northeast Division, but just four points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  The Devils have gone 1-7-1-2 in their last 11 games. 
 
Eric Gelinas leads all defenseman with 15 goals and is tied for first with eight power play goals.  The Devils will play seven of their final nine games at home. 
 
The Devils lead the season series against the Penguins, 2-1-0-0, after registering a 3-0 shutout win on Feb. 18 at the Times Union Center.  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton gained a split on home ice versus Albany with a 5-2 victory on Feb. 4. Devils goalie Jeff Frazee has started all three games, sporting a 1.76 GAA and a .936 save percentage.
