W-B/S Sweeps Two-Game Set at Home
Magic number to clinch home-ice advantage down to one

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS
 
TUESDAY, APRIL 3: Penguins 1, ADMIRALS 2…
Norfolk went 2-for-7 on the power play to edge Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 2-1, at the Norfolk Scope.  The win extended the Admirals’ record-setting streak to 24 and was the fourth in a row against the Penguins. 
 
Michel Ouellet’s 5-on-4 goal gave Norfolk the 1-0 lead in the first period before Bryan Lerg answered at 14:23 of the second for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.  The Admirals went ahead for good on Mark Barberio’s tally with 7:37 left in regulation.
 
Scott Munroe suffered the loss despite making 21 saves on 23 shots. 
 
FRIDAY, APRIL 6: PENGUINS 4, Bears 2…
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton fought off a two-goal effort from Bears forward Kyle Greentree to defeat Hershey, 4-2, at Mohegan Sun Arena.
 
The Penguins built a 2-0 cushion on a power play goal by Geoff Walker and Brandon DeFazio’s 10th marker of the season, but Greentree brought the Bears even with his two tallies.
 
With 6:02 left in the third, Ben Street’s goal during the man-advantage put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ahead for good.  Brad Thiessen picked up the victory with 22 saves on 24 shots by Hershey.
 
SATURDAY, APRIL 7: PENGUINS 3, WHALE 0…
Scott Munroe held Connecticut scoreless once again with a 27-save performance to lead the Penguins to a 3-0 win on Saturday.  Munroe did not allow the Whale a non-shootout goal in three starts versus Connecticut.
 
Simon Despres provided the game-winning goal at the 12-16 mark of the first period.  Bryan Lerg and Geoff Walker each scored in the opening five minutes of the second period to complete the scoring and help Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to a 3-0 lead. 
 
With a goal and an assist, Despres recorded his second multi-point game of the season.  His goal was his fourth game-winner of the year.

ICE CHIPS…
Scott Munroe recorded shutouts in all three starts against Connecticut this season, but went 2-0-1, suffering a 1-0 shootout loss on Oct. 9. He turned aside all 82 shots he faced in 165 minutes versus the Whale…Munroe gathered his second shutout in his last three games and is now tied for second in the AHL with five shutouts… Simon Despres notched his fourth game-winning goal of the season on Saturday and first since 11/11, tying him of the lead among league defensemen. Four of his five goals this season have been game-winners…W-B/S has the most road wins in the league (26) and the best road winning percentage (.743, 26-8-0-3)….The Penguins have a 23-7-1-3 record against out-of-division opponents….W-B/S has allowed more than two goals just once and 15 goals overall in its last 10 games (7-3-0-0).

FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 7:05 PM:  PENGUINS vs. Senators…
Binghamton (28-40-4-2) visits Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the tenth and final in 2011-12.  The Senators have dropped three straight after opening a five-game road stretch with a 6-5 shootout win over the Hershey Bears on April 1. 
 
The Senators have two players in the top 20 rookie scorers.  Andre Petersson is tied for 15th with 42 points (23g-19a), while teammate Pat Cannone is tied for 17th with 41 (18g-23a). 
 
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has gone 7-1-1-0 against Binghamton this season and has a 44-28-4-3-2 record all-time. 
 
SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 7:05 PM:  PENGUINS vs. Sound Tigers
SUNDAY, APRIL 15, 3:00 PM:  Penguins vs. SOUND TIGERS…
The Sound Tigers (39-25-3-6) had a string of seven consecutive wins snapped by the Providence Bruins on Saturday in a 4-2 loss.  Bridgeport’s magic number to clinch the Northeast Division title is three.
 
Rhett Rakhshani’s seven-game point streak (5g-5a) also came to an end in Saturday’s loss to the Bruins.  Goaltender Kevin Poulin is third in the AHL with 1346 saves and fourth in minutes played (2823:04).
 
The Penguins have been victorious in their two previous meetings against the Sound Tigers, earning 4-2 win on Dec. 31 and 5-4 shootout win on Mar. 10.  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is 28-19-0-6-3 in the all-time series against Bridgeport.
 
HOCKEY 101…
Fans can get a behind the scenes view of the Penguins and brush up on the basics of the game when we present HOCKEY 101 on Saturday, April 14.
 
This special afternoon gives fans a chance to tour the arena (including the Pens locker room) before the doors open to the public, learn some of the fundamentals of the game with an instructive presentation, and talk to members of the Penguins organization about the day-to-day operations of the hockey team.
 
Also included in the price is a ticket to that night's game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and finger foods.
 
If that's not enough, fans will get the chance to mingle with and get autographs from former Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Dave Schultz.

CHILLIN’ WITH THE PENGUINS…
Fans will get an up close and personal look at the Penguins on TV, as CHILLIN’ WITH THE PENGUINS hits the airwaves this season.  The half hour show will feature Penguins broadcasters Tom Grace and Mike O’Brien chatting with Pens players, and will allow fans to ask questions directly to their favorite Penguins with an interactive Q&A session in each episode. 
 
The show will feature two Penguins players or coaches each week, and will be taped in front of a live audience inside the Ice Rink at Coal Street Park (40 Coal Street in Wilkes-Barre). Ten shows will be taped this season, and aired at 6:30pm as a lead-in to Penguins home games being broadcast on MyNetwork TV.
 
The next taping will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday, April 12.  Admission to each taping is free and open to any Penguins fans in the area.
 
UPCOMING EVENTS/PROMOTIONS…
Friday’s contest against the Binghamton Senators on April 13, and all Friday home games, is a Dollar Dog and Draft Night.  Fans can purchase dollar dogs while supplies last, and fans 21 years of age and older may purchase select draft beers also for just $1 from 6:00-7:30pm.  It is also Fan Appreciation Night, so come on down as the Penguins hit the ice for the final weekend of the regular season.
