Defensemen Deryk Engelland and Nate Guenin, along with forwards Ryan Bayda and Chris Conner, will report to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Forward Paul Bissonnette was claimed off of waivers today by the Phoenix Coyotes. Engelland, 27, completed his second consecutive year of appearing in every regular season and playoff game for the Penguins in 2008-09. The 6’2”, 200-lb. blueliner from Chetwynd, British Columbia set AHL career highs in single-season assists (15) and points (17) in the Penguins’ run to the Calder Cup Finals in 2007-08, and achieved an AHL career high in penalty minutes (143) last year. Guenin, 26, spent the last three seasons with the Philadelphia Phantoms, totaling 43 points (7+36) and 333 penalty minutes in 207 games. He has two assists and six penalty minutes in 12 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers. He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on July 3. Bayda, 28, spent the past three seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes organization. He appeared in an NHL career high 70 games last year, posting 12 points (5+7) and 26 penalty minutes. He also made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut, posting four points (2+2) and 18 penalty minutes in 15 games with the Hurricanes. Bayda was a star at the University of North Dakota (WCHA), recording 146 points (61+85) in three years as a member of the Fighting Sioux. He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on September 28. Conner, 25, appeared in 30 AHL contests with the Peoria Rivermen (AHL) last season, posting 28 points (16+12) and 10 penalty minutes. He also tallied 13 points (3+10) in 38 NHL games with the Dallas Stars. The 5’8”, 175-lb. forward from Westland, MI, played four years at Michigan Tech (NCAA), where he finished as the Huskies’ all-time leader in shorthanded goals (15), and 19th all-time in goals (69).
