PITTSBURGH RECALLS CONNER

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Chris Conner from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Conner, 29, is tied for the WBS team lead in both goals (3) and points (4) through three games, helping the Penguins post a 3-0 record and a first-place standing in the Eastern Conference’s East Division.

A native of Westland, Michigan, Conner is in his second stint in the Pittsburgh organization. He tallied nine goals, 10 assists, 19 points and a plus-4 mark in 68 regular-season games with the Penguins between 2009-11. He added one goal in eight postseason contests.

The 5-foot-8, 190-pound Conner established NHL career highs with Pittsburgh in 2010-11 with 60 games played, seven goals and 16 points. During his first stint, Conner had 65 points (22G-43A) in 70 regular-season games with WBS.

Conner spent last season with the Phoenix Coyotes, tallying two points (1G-1A) in 12 NHL games, and 40 points (13G-27A) in 60 AHL games with Portland.

Originally signed by the Dallas Stars as an undrafted free agent, Conner has 45 points (18G-27A) in 159 career regular-season games with Dallas, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Phoenix. He has one goal in nine career playoff game
