Adam PayerlThe Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Adam Payerl from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced Sunday by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Payerl, a 6-foot-3, 218-pound forward, will be looking to make his NHL debut later today when the Penguins face the Colorado Avalanche.

Payerl, 23, skated in two preseason games with Pittsburgh, collecting five penalty minutes. He has played in 38 AHL regular-season games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, scoring three goals, six assists, nine points and 36 penalty minutes. Payerl missed two-plus months due to an upper-body injury.

As a rookie last year, the Kitchener, Ontario native suited up for 44 regular-season contests with WBS, registering 10 points (3G-7A) and 53 penalty minutes. Payerl added three points (2G-1A) in 15 playoff contests.

Originally signed by the Penguins as an undrafted free agent on March 1, 2012, Payerl played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Barrie Colts and Belleville Bulls, totaling 143 points (60G-183A) and 303 penalty minutes in 306 games
