WALKER, LERG RETURN FOR 2011-12
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have agreed to terms with forwards Bryan Lerg and Geoff Walker on one-year American Hockey League contracts, it was announced on Wednesday.
Lerg, 25, returns to the Penguins after appearing in 65 games during 2010-11. He set career highs in goals (15), assists (17), points (32) and plus-minus (+16), and added three points (1+2) in nine Calder Cup playoff appearances.
The 5-10, 175-lb. native of Livonia, Michigan recorded 128 points (68+60) in 169 games with Michigan State (CCHA) during his collegiate career. He was twice named the Spartans’ Offensive Player of the Year, and helped Michigan State win the NCAA National Championship in 2007.
Walker, 23, completed his third professional season and first full AHL campaign by also setting AHL career highs in goals (11), assists (19), points (30), and plus-minus (+15) in 70 games played. Walker led all Wilkes-Barre/Scranton players with six game-winning goals, a mark which ranked tied for sixth overall in the AHL. He added four points (1+3) in 12 Calder Cup playoff games.
The 6-3, 225-lb. native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island holds a total of 44 points (16+28) in 107 AHL games with the Penguins and Manchester Monarchs.
Walker broke into the professional ranks in 2008-09 with the ECHL’s Ontario Reign, where he tied for the team lead with 48 points and led the team with 21 goals. Walker also recorded 196 points (83+113) over the three previous seasons with his hometown Prince Edward Island Rocket (QMJHL).
