WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed defenseman Jason DeSantis to an American Hockey League contract, it was announced on Tuesday. DeSantis, 24, returns to the United States after spending 14 games with Liberec Bili Tygri HC in the Czech Republic, where he recorded five points (3G, 2A) and 10 penalty minutes. The 5-11, 185-lb. native of Oxford, Michigan spent parts of two consecutive seasons with the Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL), where he went on to post 22 points (1G, 21A) in 66 games. DeSantis completed his four-year collegiate career at Ohio State (NCAA) in 2008, where he was a two-time Scholar-Athlete honoree and an Academic All-Big Ten choice. During his senior season, DeSantis led all Buckeyes defensemen with 20 points, and led the team in assists (20) during his junior year. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will begin its 12th season of play in the American Hockey League this fall at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
