PITTSBURGH RECALLS KOBASEW

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Chuck Kobasew from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero. Kobasew, 31, has played in 11 games with WBS, scoring 10 goals and 11 points, including a pair of goals in Friday night’s 3-2 shootout win against Syracuse. PENS CLINCH 12th CONSECUTIVE PLAYOFF BERTH WITH WIN OVER SENS

Goals from Carter Rowney and Scott Harrington, as well as another outstanding performance from Peter Mannino, gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 2-1 win over the Binghamton Senators on Saturday night. With the victory, the Penguins (42-23-3-5, 92 points) bypassed the Senators (42-24-1-5, 90 points) to move into first place in the East Division, and clinched their 12th consecutive playoff appearance. KOBASEW, VOKOUN LEAD PENS TO SHOOTOUT WIN IN SYRACUSE

VOKOUN BACK IN ACTION

By Brian Coe Tomas Vokoun has been a professional hockey player for the better part of 19 years, dating back to his ECHL debut with the Wheeling Thunderbirds (now the Nailers) in 1995.  Last September, it looked like his hockey career might come to an end due to a blood clot found in his thigh. This past Wednesday night, the Columbus Blue Jackets posted a 3-1 win over the Dallas Stars, securing just the second playoff appearance in the team’s 14-year existence. PITTSBURGH ASSIGNS VOKOUN TO WILKES-BARRE

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned goaltender Tomas Vokoun to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on a conditioning assignment, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero. SYLVESTER RECALLED FROM WHEELING

PENGUINS SIGN WILSON TO ATO

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Scott Wilson to an amateur tryout agreement (ATO).    The 21-year-old from Oakville, Ontario recently completed his junior season at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, having registered seven goals, 12 assists and 24 penalty minutes in 31 games.  In three seasons with the River Hawks, Wilson compiled 39 goals and 56 assists over 108 contests and helped lead the team to consecutive… read more

FIVE GOAL FIRST LEADS SENS PAST PENS, 6-2

A five-goal first period was enough to propel the Binghamton Senators to a 6-2 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday afternoon.  The loss put an end to the Penguins four game winning streak, and allowed the Sens to move back into first place in the East Division.
