WILKES-BARRE, PA - Janne Pesonen scored a pair of third period goals, allowing the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to post a 5-3 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins Wednesday night at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. It was an exciting ending that the Pens wish they didn't need. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (44-24-2-2) took a 3-0 lead after just 27 minutes of play, but saw the Griffins (41-19-6-6) score three times in a span of 5:53 to even the game at 3-3 early in the third period. PESONEN KEEPS ROLLING IN SHOOTOUT WIN AGAINST PHANTOMS

WILKES-BARRE, PA- It was a balmy 64 degrees outside the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza on Wednesday. With Spring right around the corner, the temperature is sure to heat up even more. Then again, maybe the vernal equinox isn’t the reason for the recent rise in the mercury. Maybe it’s because Janne Pesonen has been red hot. Pesonen continued his torrid scoring pace Wednesday night, netting both regulation goals for the Penguins and picking up the shootout winner as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took a… read more

PENS BREAK OUT OF POWER PLAY SLUMP, SINK ADMIRALS

WILKES-BARRE, PA - A little more than a month ago, the Penguins were putting the finishing touches on a team record-tying nine game winning streak. Between the final victory in that string and Sunday night’s game, the Pens had gone just 3-4-1-0, and hadn’t posted more than one power play goal in any of those eight contests. Mark Letestu put that stat to bed all by himself - in a matter of 12:37. Letestu netted back-to-back power play goals, and Chris Minard tacked on a third before the opening… read more
