NAILERS WEEKEND RECAP

By Bill Engleman The Wheeling Nailers (2-3-0-0, 4 points) split a pair of home contests this past weekend, falling to the Reading Royals, 6-2, on Friday evening, and defeating the Greenville Road Warriors, 5-3, on Saturday night.  Rookie netminder Eric Hartzell made his Nailers’ debut against Reading on Friday, stopping 25 of 30 shots he faced in the loss.  Jack MacLellan and Carter Rowney scored the lone goals for Wheeling. PENS RALLY TO SWEEP WEEKEND SERIES VS. BEARS

PENGUINS COME BACK TO DEFEAT BEARS IN OT

PENGUINS ASSIGN HARTZELL TO WHEELING

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – It was announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned goaltender Eric Hartzell from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.    Hartzell, 23, originally signed with Pittsburgh in April after completing four seasons with Quinnipiac University. BY WILLIAM ENGLEMAN The ECHL season is just two weeks old, and the Wheeling Nailers are off to a decent start, with a 1-2-0-0 record through their first three contests. With the first week and a half in the books the Nailers are currently second in the Atlantic Division standings, one game behind Reading with one game in hand on the Royals.  They are ranked ninth in the Eastern Conference standings overall. SENATORS HAND PENGUINS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

PENGUINS TO AIR 10 GAMES ON MYNETWORKTV
