STRAIT EARNS FIRST NHL RECALL

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Brian Strait from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero. Strait, 23, is in his second full season with WBS. The defensive defenseman has a plus-17 rating this season to go with his eight points (2G-6A) in 54 games. BRAD THIESSEN EARNS SECOND AHL HONOR OF THE SEASON

The American Hockey League announced today that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Brad Thiessen has been named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week, for the period ending February 13, 2011. With the Penguins’ top seven scorers all on NHL recall to Pittsburgh, Thiessen provided some much-needed stability by making five starts and allowing only three goals, stopping 99 of 102 shots (4-1-0, 0.60, .971). CRUNCH SEND PENGUINS TO THIRD CONSECUTIVE LOSS

SYRACUSE, New York – Nick Bonino scored twice and J.P. Levasseur made 36 saves to help the Syracuse Crunch send the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to its third consecutive loss, a 4-2 setback on Saturday night at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena. JOEY HADDAD REASSIGNED TO PENGUINS

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Pittsburgh Penguins have reassigned left wing Joey Haddad from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced on Monday.
