SAM MILETIC REASSIGNED TO WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON

 

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) have reassigned forward Sam Miletic to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton from the Niagara IceDogs (OHL). Also, forward Jan Drozg has been released from his amateur tryout agreement.

Miletic just finished his final season of junior hockey with a career-high 92 points (36G-56A) in 63 games, sixth-most in the Ontario Hockey League. After beginning the year already establishing a new career-best in assists with 38 helpers over 35 games with the London Knights, the 20-year-old forward was traded to Niagara on Jan. 9, 2018. Miletic proceeded to tie for the IceDogs’ team lead in points (12) during their 10 postseason games.

The native of Bloomfield Township, Michigan is one season removed from leading London in goals with 37 tallies during the 2016-17 campaign. His breakout year earned him an invite to Pittsburgh’s Development Camp in July, and then he played in all three games of the Penguins’ showing at the 2017 Prospect Challenge in Buffalo, New York. Pittsburgh signed Miletic to a three-year, entry-level contract on Sept. 25, 2017.

Miletic joins Wilkes-Barre/Scranton just in time for their opening round series of the 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs against the Charlotte Checkers. Game 1 of the best-of-five Atlantic Division Semifinal will take place on Friday, Apr. 20 at Bojangles’ Coliseum. The series returns to the Penguins’ home ice on Thursday, Apr. 26 at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that forward Sam Miletic has been reassigned by the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) to the London Knights (OHL).

Miletic led the Knights with 37 goals last season and ranked fifth on the team with 55 points. He has 69 points (40G-26A) in 100 career games played in the OHL.

The undrafted 20-year-old forward singed an entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh on Sept. 25, 2017.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton opens up the 2017-18 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Mohegan Sun Arena against the Charlotte Checkers. PITTSBURGH SIGNS SAM MILETIC TO ENTRY LEVEL CONTRACT

Sam Miletic led the London Knights (OHL) with 37 goals last season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed undrafted free agent forward Sam Miletic to a three-year, entry-level contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Miletic, 20, has played in two NHL preseason games with the Penguins this year, scoring the opening goal in Pittsburgh’s win in Columbus on September 22. He also played in all three Prospect Challenge contests in Buffalo in early September, tallying two points (1G-1A) in the opening game against Boston. Miletic also skated in Pittsburgh’s prospect development camp in July.

Last year, the 6-foot, 196-pound Miletic led the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League with 37 goals in 65 games, a total that ranked 12th in the OHL. He had 55 points (37G-18A) overall on the season, which ranked him fifth on the club.

A native of Bloomfield Township, Michigan, Miletic has spent the past two seasons with the Knights, skating in 100 regular-season games, compiling 40 goals, 29 assists and 69 points. Before joining London, Miletic played the 2014-15 season with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League, scoring 12 goals and 27 points in 58 games.

Miletic is the third undrafted free agent signed by the Penguins in training camp, joining goaltender Alex D’Orio and forward Jordy Bellerive, both of whom also participated in development camp, the Prospects Challenge and NHL training camp before returning to their junior clubs.
