WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed defenseman Kevin Spinozzi to an American Hockey League contract for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.
Spinozzi has been with the Penguins on a professional tryout agreement since September when he made the team out of training camp. The first-year pro has appeared in six games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season and earned his first AHL point with an assist yesterday, Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 at Hartford.
Prior to turning pro, the Granby, Québec native played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Sarnia Sting. Last year, Spinozzi set career highs in goals (13) and points (41) while serving as captain of the Sting. He wrapped up his OHL career with 28 goals and 85 assists for 113 points in 275 games played.
The Penguins’ next game is tonight, Saturday, Dec. 16, as they take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s next home game is Friday, Dec. 22 against the Binghamton Devils. Puck drop between the Penguins and Devils is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
