PITTSBURGH RECALLS SIMON; ASSIGNS MCKEGG
The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Dominik Simon from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
Forward Greg McKegg has been re-assigned to WBS.
Simon, 23, has produced three goals, 13 assists and 16 points in 20 games with WBS this year. His assist and point totals are both tied for the team lead. Simon has tallied at least one point in 13 of his 20 games.
The 5-foot-11, 176-pound Simon has played in five career NHL games with Pittsburgh over the previous two years, collecting a pair of assists. During both the 2016 and ’17 Stanley Cup championship runs, Simon practiced with the ‘Black Aces.’
Simon, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, has played two-plus years in the AHL with WBS, totaling 110 points (43G-67A) and a plus-14 in 158 regular-season games. He has added five points (1G-4A) in 12 playoff contests. Simon’s best season came as a rookie in 2015-16 when he led the team with 25 goals, and recorded 48 points, in 68 games.
Pittsburgh originally drafted Simon in the fifth round (137th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft.
