Wilkes-Barre/Scranton looks for encore to its explosive, record-tying night

PENGUINS WEEKLY – Penguins (30-27-4-4) have a chance to climb Atlantic standings, build playoff cushion this week

 

Penguins Weekly Rewind

Wednesday, Mar. 30 – PENGUINS 5 vs. Hartford 1
After entering the second period in a 0-0 tie, the Penguins rattled off four-straight goals to run away with a homecoming win. Sam Poulin and Michael Chaput both picked up a goal and an assist, while Louis Domingue made 24 saves.

Friday, Apr. 1 – PENGUINS 2 at Lehigh Valley 4
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton never trailed until the 45-minute mark, but the Phantoms scrounged together a pair of goals in the final frame to pull out the win. Both of the Penguins’ goals came early in periods; Chaput at 3:16 of the first and Kyle Olson 47 seconds into the second.

Saturday, Apr. 2 – PENGUINS 9 vs. Bridgeport 2
The Penguins looked like Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on Marvel Super HeroTM Night when they unloaded nine unanswered goals in a crucial division matchup. Seven different players found the back of the net, while 15 players recorded a point. Not to be overlooked, Domingue made 29 saves while the Pens produced a season-high 48 shots on goal.

 

The Week Ahead

Wednesday, Apr. 6 – PENGUINS vs. Lehigh Valley
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton gets a chance to avenge its loss from last weekend in its last home game against Lehigh Valley this season. Through the first 10 games of the season series, both teams have managed five wins. Thirty-five-year-old Cal O’Reilly is one tally shy of setting a new career-high for goals in a season.

Saturday, Apr. 2 – PENGUINS at Syracuse
In the last month of the season, the Penguins finally make their first trip to play the Crunch this season. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton have split their season series with Syracuse to this point with one win apiece at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, with both games settled by a one-goal margin.

– Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s nine goals on Saturday tied the franchise record for goals in a single game. The Penguins last achieved nine goals on Feb. 17, 2010 vs. Albany.

– The last time the Penguins scored five goals in a period was Nov. 15, 2015 at Hartford, a come-from-behind, 7-6 OT win.

– The Penguins are 12-2-2-1 (.794) at home since Jan. 21.

– Michael Chaput has scored in four-straight games. The last Penguin to have a four-game goal streak was Stefan Noesen, Oct. 25 – Nov. 2, 2019.

– Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has not allowed a power-play goal in five games, going 19-for-19 on the penalty kill in that stretch.
